In terms of vocabulary and style, both these books appeared to be written as guide books for well-educated middle class parents. In addition, Modern Guide expresses a hope to provide special help to the "changing family unit," such as one-parent families and those with both parents working.
In terms of overall organization, both books concentrate heavily on the infant and young child with a skimpy coverage of the school aged child and adolescence. One wonders why these sections weren't left out all together. Modern Guide is divided into two sections with the first 268 pages covering developmental stages from pregnancy through adolescence and the second 138 pages devoted to health care.
