This volume is based on a postgraduate education seminar dealing with new approaches to the understanding and management of learning problems in children, presented by the University of Florida, Gainesville, in 1971. The contributors, mainly from the university, offer a series of papers concerned with the neurology, psychology, or educational aspects of children's learning. Most of the papers have a research design and are clinically applied. A collection of 13 separate presentations, the papers are divided into three major sections: (1) preschool development, (2) problems of early school development, and (3) intervention and outcome.

The first chapter I experienced as a pleasant, somewhat wordy, and not particularly useful introduction to the remainder of the book. This was followed by a fine chapter, "Early Brain Damage and Later Development," discussing central nervous system (CNS) structure and the effect of alterations of that structure on subsequent function and development.
