To the Editor.—We wish to thank Drs. Frothingham and Katz for emphasizing that transfusion-induced malaria is different from the naturally acquired form. It would appear that the addition of primaquine phosphate was unnecessary in our patient.
As Dr. Katz points out, infection with Plasmodium falciparum may be resistant to conventional therapy. However, all forms of malaria may be spread by infected blood.
