To the Editor.—Rubinstein and Taybi reported seven cases of children with broad thumbs and toes, facial abnormalities, and mental retardation in 1963 (Am J Dis Child 105:588-608, 1963).
Six years before the publication of this article, a detailed description of an identical syndrome under the title "Pouce bot arqué en forte abductionextension et autres symptômes concomitants" was published (Rev Chir Orthop 43:142-146, 1957) by three Greek orthopedic surgeons including myself. The others are John P. Michail, MD, and Stamatis Théodorou, MD.
We think that this paper of ours constitutes a bibliographic certificate of birth for this syndrome.
