The material comprising this book was derived from the proceedings of the International Symposium on Brain Hypoxia which was held in Carshalton, Surrey, England, from August 26 to 28, 1970, and is presented as 31 individual papers, each constituting one chapter. Closely related chapters are grouped together to form the following seven major parts: cerebral blood flow; electron microscopy; biochemical approach; post-hypoxic brain swelling; atmospheric decompression; hypoglycemia; and epilepsy.
This volume was edited by J. B. Brierley and B. S. Meldrum of the Medical Research Council Laboratories, Surrey, England, and includes their writings in addition to those of 45 collaborators from England, Europe, and North America. This book also contains a complete author index and a brief but adequate subject index. In addition, Brain Hypoxia presents an abundance of photographs, including electron microscopic pictures, tables, graphs, and electroencephalographic recordings which greatly enhance the meaning and value of the subject matter.
