ABSTRACT

To the Editor.—I am sorry to say that we are unable to answer Dr. Gellman's questions as we did not record the time of day at the time the patients were entered into the study. All outpatients were seen and treated during our normal clinic hours (9 am to 4:30 pm) and inpatients were placed into the study as they were admitted to the hospital with the necessary criteria any time of the day and night. Since patients were assigned to the various treatment groups by randomization and the total number of patients in each group was quite large, it is unlikely that circadian influences on temperature could have affected our overall observations and conclusions.
