Building a School FREE

The Duke University Medical School is Dr. Davison's School. He was there before the buildings were built, before the books were bought for the library, before an administrative staff was assembled, and before a single faculty appointment was considered. On all of our walls under the paint, one finds inscribed, "Davison was here."

Under Dr. Davison's guidance the Medical School grew into a community of scholars concerned with all phases of knowledge. He concerned himself with the practice of medicine in the state, the South, and the nation. He built an outstanding library. He operated a clinical center which has steadily grown until it has a worldwide reputation. He developed a system of private university clinics which bring a steady flow of visitors to Duke to study their operation. He spread pediatricians far and wide over the land and laid the basis for the development of a children's clinical center
