ABSTRACT

Working With Children in Hospitals is a very valuable and meaningful book to me, and it could be for all interested and concerned pediatrichospital personnel.

The enlarged print is an asset for the reader. The updated bibliography is also an improvement, particularly the section "Books for Children About Hospitals." I should like to see more in this section.

The increased use of pictures, which serves to emphasize children's thoughts and feelings, I found very valuable, as well as the chapter "Children Tell Stories and Draw." It stresses the need for every avenue of expression to be available for the children to use. Stories and drawings serve as constructive outlets for thoughts for the children as well as providing an educational opportunity. They give the hospital personnel still another tool to assist in understanding the child and what illness and hospitalization means to him.
