Purification of Hepatitis Associated Antigen by Homologous Immunoadsorbents

The purification of the hepatitis associated antigen (HAA) is a time consuming task when classical chromatographic methods are used and immunochemical criteria for purity are applied. We report our experiences with copolymerized immunoadsorbents, as originally described by Avrameas and Terneynck1 and successfully applied to the purification of homologous antibodies directed against HAA.2

Methods  Initially, 75 ml of human serum containing precipitating antibodies directed against HAA were copolymerized at pH 5.0 using 6.7 ml protein polymer (Chlorethylformiate)1 and packed in a specially devised filter system3 on a 10μ membrane filter.
