ABSTRACT

This cardboard-backed collection of 2,000 multiple choice questions on pediatric topics couched in the formats used by the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Pediatrics, offers the anxious candidate a modestly effective mechanism for testing his readiness for examination. Nineteen divisions of the book cover most of the subfields of pediatrics. A table of answers is included. While the range of questions is extensive, and the answers are presumably supported by references to texts and the recent literature, the composition of the questions leaves something to be desired. Too many of them are ambiguously worded, or have more than one correct answer, or, in a few instances, have wrong answers. However, an honestly taken self-test will at least discover to the reader the limits of his knowledge and will hopefully stimulate him to shore up areas of failing comprehension of underlying mechanisms through additional study.
