ABSTRACT

The most recent edition of Anthony DePalma's atlas on The Management of Fractures and Dislocations is similar in its format to the earlier edition. I personally have always had a warm place in my heart for Dr. DePalma and his atlas, since I used it extensively during my own military service prior to the time that I had had training in orthopedic surgery. It has always seemed to me rather well-suited for this purpose. Its "Step 1, Step 2" style is especially well-suited for use by the individual who does not possess previously developed skills in the management of injuries to the musculoskeletal system. The principal shortcoming of the earlier edition was that many of Dr. DePalma's methods do not necessarily represent that which is considered widely acceptable, or always conservative.
