This two volume set is written primarily for surgeons.
The 45 contributors, in general, represent the outstanding talent in their respective fields. Emphasis is placed on subjects of current surgical interest with excellent chapters on such subjects as transplantation, trauma, the surgical aspects of hematology, and rehabilitation. The chapter on the pituitary and the adrenal, and the one on thyroid and parathyroid are particularly well done. The book stresses the pathologic physiology and presents a thorough understanding of the disease and its clinical picture without overemphasis on surgical technique. The chapters representing the various surgical subspecialties, however, are written in a somewhat different tone and generally represent a summary of problems commonly encountered and operative techniques employed by the particular specialty.
