ABSTRACT

The time has passed when only one textbook of pediatric endocrinology was available to those interested in the subject. With the advent of Hubble's Paediatric Endocrinology three are available, all excellent and well-written. Hubble's text is by eight authors in addition to contributions by Hubble, himself. Eight of the nine authors are from the United Kingdom, the exception being Laron of Israel. Hubble, himself, writes the introductory chapter on "Endocrine Control of Growth and Skeletal Maturation." This anticipates some of the other sections in the book and is a summary of the disorders of growth which occur in pediatric practice. Dr. Laron follows with a well-illustrated, thorough discussion of "The Hypothalamus and the Pituitary Gland (Hypophysis)." This chapter is a complete review of what is known about growth hormone and the other hormones of the pituitary gland.
