The March of Dimes Birth Defect Information Center.—The National Foundation and the Boston Floating Hospital for Infants and Children have announced the opening of a March of Dimes Birth Defect Information Center at the hospital. Funded by the National Foundation, the center represents a pilot project to determine the needs of a central repository of information on all facilities, institutions, special schools, and classes involved in the diagnosis and treatment of emotionally, intellectually, and physically handicapped children in the state of Massachusetts. Specific information is available by phone or letter to physicians, educators, social agencies, nurses, and parents.
It is hoped that this center will serve as a prototype for the development of similar facilities throughout the country and that the program will culminate in one clearing house which will accumulate data on handicapped children on a national basis (telephone, area code 617 357-8686).
