CLINICAL HISTORY.—A 2-year-old boy was seen in the Outpatient Department of Childrens Hospital, Los Angeles. The mother complained he was too small for his age. He was a product of a normal pregnancy and delivery, and at birth weighed 6 lb (2,722 gm).

He sat alone at 7 months, walked at 20 months, and at present says only a few words. He was bottle fed, and does not take solids well. At 1 year of age, his weight was 17 lb (7.7 kg), and at 22 months of age it was 19 lb (8.6 kg). The child's only illness was chickenpox at 9 months of age. There are older siblings who are all living and well.

This child appeared short and stocky, and with a short neck and humeri. There was a mild lordosis. The examination of the ears, nose, and throat was normal. The head measured 17½ inches, and
