ABSTRACT

This book is short, concise and contains practical information regarding diagnosis and treatment of patients with either hemophilia A (AHF deficiency) or hemophilia B (PTC deficiency). It is divided into two major portions.

The first part of the book outlines the way to diagnose a bleeding disorder. The importance of an accurate detailed past history and family history is emphasized. Coagulation tests which would be helpful in the diagnosis of a bleeding disorder are discussed and the uselessness of the glass clotting time and bleeding time by themselves as screening tests for a coagulation abnormality is stressed.

The experience of the author in treatment of patients with hemophilia A and B at the Boston Children's Hospital Medical Center is given in part 2 of the book. Although there are occasional points in this section which are controversial (such as aspiration of a hemarthrosis), a good outline of therapy is presented.
