Pathologic Physiology is a collaborative book which approaches problems of disease from the standpoint of disturbed physiology and biochemistry. A number of fundamental changes have been made from the third edition of this book including the addition of a coeditor, William Sodeman, Jr. New chapters on subcellular biology by Dr. Sodeman, Jr. and on autoimmune disease by Dr. F. M. Burnett have been added and a complete revision of the chapters on infectious diseases has been made. In addition, sufficient changes and updating of material have been made in the other chapters to warrant the publication of this new edition.
The purpose of this book, as stated by Dr. Sodeman, is to bridge the gap between standard texts of physiology and those of clinical medicine. This bridging of the two disciplines, physiology and clinical medicine, is very effectively accomplished in most (but not all) of the chapters of the book.
