ABSTRACT

This book on growth and development is an excellent text for teachers, social workers, and medical students, especially as an introduction to pediatrics. The book can be read by intelligent parents with profit. This fifth edition of Child Development includes the latest knowledge in social and psychological areas of growth and development and the most recent advances in genetics.

The text is well written, clear, and concise. The underlying theme of the book which includes the whole child and the individuality of each child is well presented in the first chapter. The chapters on the development of memory, imagination, creative ability, in thinking and reasoning, and on social and personality development are very good.

A careful study of the text will give both teachers and social workers an understanding of the development of many behavior problems and, in some instances, a means of preventing them. Parents who read the book
