To the Editor: I appreciate Dr. Kallen's comments about our report of a case of polycystic disease of the renal medulla.
Our report was in preparation at the same time Dr. Strauss' report was being readied. In fact, one of the reasons no photomicrographs were included in our report is that the slides were on loan to Dr. Strauss. The other reason no micrographs were used is that we felt that those used in the references cited were sufficient.
In attempting reasonable brevity, not all of the urine sodium values obtained were published in our case. Although severe salt-wasting was not a problem, we did feel that this boy was a salt-loser and that this phenomenon had not previously been reported in the literature.
