ABSTRACT

This first story for the adopted child, written for very young children, is not recommended. A book such as this must be exactly right or it should not be used at all. No matter how appealing and attractive the book may seem at first glance, it must be looked at for such lapses as were found in this one.

In the middle of a simply told story the text repeats with undue emphasis the need of the adopted baby for a home and family. It also refers to the "child placement office" and the accompanying illustration shows a baby in a basket on the floor outside the office. "Child placement" is a difficult term to explain to a literal minded young child. It also looks as if the baby has stayed in the basket outside the office until the right family has come along.
