ABSTRACT

Among pediatricians who are concerned with more than a superficial glazing on their concepts of children's emotional backgrounds which so often color the clinical picture during illness, vol 18 of the Psychoanalytic Study of the Child will be a welcome library addition for study and reference. This volume has the papers grouped under three selective headings; contributions to psychoanalytic theory, aspects of normal and psychological development, and clinical contributions. It seems quite comfortable to slip into clinical contributions initially, and the inquiring reader is amply rewarded by a selection of a wide range of subjects from a study of identical twins to that of a case of constitutional sexual precocity. Dorothy Burlingham's study of a set of identical twins is an extended work that offers the clinician a rich field of many facets of the twins' interactions and conflicts.
