This widely-consulted standard reference contains tabular and descriptive information relating to nutrient allowances in human dietaries in the United States for specified age categories. It is primarily intended to serve as a guide in planning diets for population groups.
The text which accompanies the master table is an excellent, well-summarized interpretation of the existing knowledge of nutritional science. Part 1 presents the physiological and biochemical bases for the recommended daily dietary allowances listed in the master table. Part 2 considers the roles and requirements of other essential nutrients such as fluoride, folic acid, vitamins K, E, pyridoxine (B6), cyanocobalamin (B12), trace elements, etc.
The 334 references are listed in a separate section according to name of nutrient.
Several changes in the table of recommended allowances should be noted. There has been an adjustment downward in the caloric allowances for both the "reference" men and the "reference" woman. Calcium
