It is indeed an honor and a privilege to be permitted to write an editorial tribute to Dr. Warren Elwell Wheeler as he approaches the date of relinquishing his obligations as Chief Editor of the American Journal of Diseases of Children. Dr. Wheeler first became a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal in 1957. In 1959 he became Editor-in-Chief. His contributions to the task of publishing one of the great pediatric journals of our time have been many and great and always offered in a spirit of enthusiasm and dedication to an ideal. The success of his efforts is attested by the outstanding caliber of the manuscripts selected for publication during the time of his tenure.
