ABSTRACT

On the jacket of this book is printed part of a review, apparently published in the Ärtzliche Mitteilungen, wherein this textbook of pediatrics, which contains chapters contributed by a number of professors of pediatrics (all heads of pediatric departments from various German universities), is praised as a classic textbook reflecting the most up-to-date thinking and knowledge in this field. This is not simply an exaggerated claim. It is documentary evidence of a "splendid isolation" of a number of senior university professors of pediatrics who in many instances are unwilling to accept new ideas and changing concepts.

When this reviewer reads that it is necessary to limit the intake of water and salt in cases of exogenous obesity, or that infants should always be exposed to fresh air (the windows of their bedrooms should always be open as long as the temperature of the room does not fall below 52 F),
