This second edition was published in 1962 and represents some expansion over the first edition which was published in 1952 and then reprinted again in 1954. In the preface the authors state that the book is directed to both the clinician and the pathologist.
The book is organized into 3 parts. The first part is limited to the nature of skeletal muscle and includes chapters on embryology, anatomy, and histology, innervation of muscle, chemistry of muscle, and the relationship of muscle contraction and neuronal activity.
Part 2 is devoted to pathologic reactions of skeletal muscle, with chapters on experimental pathology and general reaction of human muscles to the diseases.
Part 3 is entitled pathology of muscle diseases. Chapters 5 to 13 include descriptions of the pathologic changes in a variety of neuromuscular diseases starting with congenital defects and including muscular dystrophy, and inflammatoid diseases, tumors, spinal and neuromuscular atrophies, endocrine
