This volume represents a tremendous amount of work on the part of the author and his associates. The attempt at brevity in the text is laudable, but its effect is detrimental except perhaps to an advanced student in the field of human embryology. The text is written in German with the English translation printed in a parallel column. Unfortunately, the translation is often too literal and not interpretive enough, so that readers not versed in German may have considerable difficulty comprehending the text. The usefulness of some of the definitions of terminology in the beginning of the book is greatly impaired because of complexity and vagueness of expression.
The book consists of 3 main sections dealing with: (I) Human Ova, (II) Human Embryos, and (III) Body Regions in Human Embryos, followed by a few tables, references, and a mixed German and English index. Four of the tables correlate fetal age
