ABSTRACT

Dr. Shorter has prepared this atlas for the purpose of illustrating the forms of liver disease most commonly met in a pathologic practice. This atlas was prompted because of the increased utilization of the needle biopsy of the liver for diagnosis. The first forty pages of the book consist of a brief outline of the types of liver disease encountered, and the remaining consist of 107 figures illustrating examples of normal and pathologic liver by excellent black and white photomicrographs. In the initial discussion as to contraindications of aspiration or punch sampling, the author states that biopsy of infant's or small children's livers is contraindicated because of inability to obtain cooperation from the patient. This would appear to be contradictory to many clinical pediatricians. The Menghini needle is not mentioned in the technique of sampling.
