Dr. Graham's letter was sent to the authors of the article referred to, and Dr. Abrahamov replies as follows:
To the Editor: In reply to Dr. George Graham's comments about our article, we would like to stress several points which Dr. Graham seems to have overlooked.
On Page 192 in the first paragraph, it is stated that the fluid loss at admission was measured per kilogram of body weight. This was done in order to compare fluid loss with plasma loss.
The plasma volume was in most cases measured at admission only, and for this reason the initial weight had to be taken as a basis. The admission weight was always lower than the true weight, and as a consequence the fluid loss so expressed was always higher than it would have been if expressed in relation to the true weight.
