An interpretive review of recent investigation in the field of nutrition is presented for the benefit of medical practitioners, especially those practicing in countries where gross malnutrition is prevalent. A general review by the author (Part I) is combined with a number of invited contributions on special subjects (Part II).
Physicians active in the care of infants and children in the United States and Canada will be less interested in the several chapters on malnutrition and dietary deficiency than in the chapters on vitamins and trace elements (Chap. 9), recommended allowances (Chap. 11), and "Some General Trends and the Future" (Chap. 16). Few practitioners in the United States and Canada will be particularly interested in trends in nutrition in French- or Spanish Portuguese-speaking countries or, in fact, in most of the invited contributions, although "Trends in Infant Nutrition" (Chap. 24), by L. E. Holt, Jr., will be found to be rewarding.
