These young adults of whom Dr. Richardson writes so entertainingly, as well as authoritatively, are the most important segment of our population. Not only may they get into trouble and into delinquency if improperly oriented, but they must also face the fact that during their generation this "Cold War" may mean military service and sacrifice.
Y.M.C.A., student government in high schools, churches, and other organizations for the improvement of youth, as Dr. Richardson points out, often fail because they do not give the young adults a feeling of responsibility and security. Honor systems succeed only when the students themselves have the authority to make decisions. Adults can counsel them, but if the boys and girls of the teen-age group realize that they have the authority to make their own rules, they usually accept the responsibility and security that go with this authority.
