ULCERATIVE COLITIS IN NEGRO CHILDREN

ABSTRACT

To the Editor:—For the past 2 years we have been reviewing our experience with 41 cases of ulcerative colitis in children and have been impressed with the absence of this disease in Negro children in our study. This is in spite of the fact that we do have a goodly number of Negro children in our clinics and in the hospital.

Through the kindness of Dr. John Bigler of Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago I was able to review their records over the past 20 years and was able to find only one such case. I have also talked with several people in other clinics and find this to be a common experience.

In spite of this, I have found no published statement as to this finding, and am writing this letter in the hope that some readers of the American Journal of Diseases of Children may contact me
