An atlas of fluid and electrolyte balance, this book describes normal and pathological conditions by the use of 31 colored plates, each accompanied by brief explanatory remarks. Three graphic devices are employed in this presentation: the first is a highly diagrammatic but effective representation of the fluid compartments of the body; the second is a "three-dimensional" adaption of the familiar Gamble diagram with the various ions depicted in brilliant hues; thirdly, a diagram of the nephron is variously employed to illustrate the role of the kidney in fluid and electrolyte balance. The book is divided into four sections: basic physiologic considerations; pharmacology of diuresis and antidiuresis; disorders of fluid and electrolyte balance, and fluid and electrolyte replacement therapy.
