Many currently available books provide guidance to parents of infants and toddlers on issues of development, nutrition, and general well-being. As an unsuspecting parent of a child who was eventually diagnosed as having autism, I consulted a number of these books, only to toss them in a pile, throw up my hands, and exclaim, “This does not describe my child in any way!”
Now, there is Drs Volkmar and Wiesner’s contribution to the mix. Dr Volkmar is the director of autism research at Yale University, and Dr Wiesner is a pediatrician with a special interest in the field. With this book, parents and caregivers of children with ASD finally have a resource to guide them in providing the best health care for their children.
