It is very easy to understand that epinephrin produces a favorable effect in asthma, but it is difficult to understand why pituitary extract should produce a favorable effect. Theoretically it should produce an unfavorable effect, because it constricts smooth muscle quite independently of the innervation. Riese's results cannot be accepted until corroborated.
