This volume follows by some time the appearance of volume I. The editors explain in the preface that this delay is due to the decision to wait for the availability of many authors who were in the service.
Volume II covers the diseases of the nervous system, eye, skeletal system, genitourinary system, liver and pancreas, rheumatism, disorders of the cardiovascular system and blood and infectious, venereal and cutaneous diseases.
The original work of Garrod and his colleagues has been greatly expanded and completely rewritten. Many sections are entirely new. The book is thoroughly up to date, with extensive coverage of functional disorders of the nervous system, including a section on electroencephalography. The newer technics in surgical treatment of the congenital cardiac malformations are included, as is the modern treatment of congenital syphilis. A special chapter is added on malignant disease in children.
