The editor of this recently published book, David E. Green, expresses in the preface his hope that this survey by some thirty research workers may assist biochemists, chemists and medical doctors in seeing biochemistry in clearer perspective and in its proper relation to other fields of inquiry. The reviewer is here concerned with the book as it may assist medical doctors, especially pediatricians, who occupy a position either as outright biochemists or a position somewhere between physicians and surgeons on the one hand and biochemists on the other.
The contributors have been chosen well, though a few have not measured up to expectations. Essays in this category are those entitled "Immunochemistry," "Chemotherapy," "Viruses," "Biochemical Aspects of Pharmacology" and the "Biological Significance of Vitamins."
