This volume is a collection of papers presented as a symposium sponsored by the University of Chicago and the University of Wisconsin in connection with the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the University of Chicago. They were presented at Chicago, Sept. 15 to 19, 1941. A companion volume, "Respiratory Enzymes," consisting of papers presented at Madison, Wis., has been published by the University of Wisconsin Press.
