ABSTRACT

PERSONAL NEWS  Dr. Howard B. Mettel Appointed.—National headquarters of the American Red Cross has announced the appointment of Howard B. Mettel, M.D., as director of medical and health service of the midwestern area, American Red Cross, with headquarters in St. Louis.Dr. Mettel comes to the Red Cross from the Indiana State Health Department where he has served as director of the maternal and child health program and as director of the crippled children's program of Indiana. He also was associated with the teaching staff of the Indiana University School of Medicine.

GENERAL NEWS  Rachford Memorial Lectures.—Dr. Hattie E. Alexander, of Columbia University, will deliver the eleventh annual series of lectures under the auspices of the Benjamin Knox Rachford Lectureships, in Cincinnati on Thursday, Nov. 12, and on Friday, Nov. 13, 1942, at 8: 15 p. m., in the auditorium of the Children's Hospital Clinic and Research Building.
