The purpose of this report is to record the occurrence of diabetes mellitus in one of identical twins, the growth and development of both twins and dextrose tolerance studies of the nondiabetic twin. Because diabetes is rare in twins, especially in childhood, the opportunity to study a nondiabetic twin seldom presents itself. The present study is the first of this type to be described in the literature.
REPORT OF A CASE
Mildred and Helen S. were born at the Bronx Hospital June 20, 1930. The first child, Mildred, was born at 7: 50 a. m., by vertex presentation, weighing 5 pounds 4 ounces (2,381 Gm.). A second sac was then found. This was ruptured, and the second child, Helen, was delivered by breech extraction ten minutes later. Her birth weight was 5 pounds 9 ounces (2,523 Gm.).
