Erythroblastic anemia, a disturbance of the hemopoietic system, is a well established disease characterized by racial and familial incidence, mongoloid appearance, progressive anemia, deficiency of hemoglobin with decrease in the number of red cells but with large numbers of nucleated red cells in the circulation, leukopenia of high degree, enlargement of the spleen and slight enlargement of the liver and destructive changes in the bones with lesions in the bone marrow. About 60 cases so far have been reported in the literature. As far as could be ascertained, in none were there neurologic symptoms. The case to be described is of interest clinically because of the signs and symptoms of an extrapyramidal disorder and histologically for the changes in the striatum and pallidum.
