ABSTRACT

To the Editor:  —My attention has been called to a misinterpretation in one of my references to the German literature on "peristolic function." Having reviewed the paper in question, I wish to correct the inaccuracy, which however accidental, is apt to mislead.In the confusion resulting from definite differences of opinion concerning the actual existence of a peristolic function, Flesch-Peteri have been misinterpreted as being among those who are not convinced of its existence.In my first paper on stomach function I have written; "Leven and Barrett think that the consistency of the food plays the greatest rôle in the filling and form of the stomach. Flesch-Peteri agree with this point of view and add that the quality of the feeding is of distinct influence on the development of the form of the gastric organ" (Am. J. Dis. Child., July). This in general, is a correct statement of their belief.
