According to the authors this book is a critical discussion of the uses of the quartz lamp and the roentgen ray in the therapy of diseases of children. Since the senior author is one of the leading German pediatricians it should be a valuable contribution to medical literature.
The text apparently bears out the authors' contentions. It is divided into two parts, the first dealing with quartz lamp therapy and the second with the roentgen ray. The work is based mainly on the authors' observations, but there are many references and a good bibliography. They discuss to a varying degree, etiology, symptomatology and diagnosis while the specific therapy is described in detail. No extravagant conclusions are drawn.
In both the first and second parts there are short articles on the ill effects which sometimes follow the treatments.
Most of the space in the first part is given to the discussion
